Racing Equipment FAQs
In what country did auto racing begin?
France held the first races, and was the origin of the first international race, which completed a road course from France into Italy. It was also home to the first permanent racing tracks, in Nice. While they lay claim to many of racing history’s firsts, they are by no means dominant in the sport today. In European competition country loyalty plays a big factor in race team sponsorship.
Why are race cars covered in stickers?
Money, plain and simple. A race car is an expensive proposition, many cost more than lower end houses. A race team is expected to have more than one car available on race day, and that’s only one expense. In addition to the car you have race-to-race transportation of the car, multiple sets of tires for each car, and spare parts in case something goes wrong. And that’s only the equipment end of things, you also need to fully staff the race team with mechanics and grease monkeys, not to mention a successful driver and pit crew. So a race team needs all the income it can get, and the race car is prime advertising space
What types of racing are there?
The short answer is a lot. The long answer is that for nearly every vehicle class, there’s a racing league. Light pickup, motorcycle, dirt bike, stock car, formula one, all of these have multiple circuits devoted to each of them, and each auto manufacturer participates in any and all that they can. Porsche even has an entire race league devoted to its cars. And that’s not even mentioning things such as drag races, rally races, or boat and plane races. In short, if it’s motorized and can go fast, there’s probably a league that races it.
